Smith took to Twitter to share a selfie of her ultra-glam makeover, branding the BBC hair and make-up team as “genius”.
“The @bbcstrictly wardrobe, hair and makeup teams are genius,” she wrote.
“Here’s a little tease of things to come! (Of course I look like this every weekend when recording @forthemanypod and that @IainDale is a fiend for the sequins).”
The photo shows off Smith’s curled hair and her pink-and-turquoise sequinned blouse.
Smith’s new Strictly co-star Ranvir Singh wrote: “Sensational” and adding a flame emoji.
Smith responded with her support, saying: “I’ve seen some photos of you and you looked gorgeous!”
Smith was the last contestant announced for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, with the 57-year-old saying she was “speechless with excitement” at being asked to join the show.
“Fifty years ago, I got a bronze medal for Scottish Highland Dancing and it feels about time to return to dancing,” she said.
“I couldn’t be in better hands with the Strictly team and I’m going to throw myself into the challenge. Watch out!”
Smith served as home secretary from 2007 to 2009.
She will be the second leading Labour figure to appear on Strictly after Ed Ball’s celebrated star turn in 2016.
