After confirming they were back together earlier this year, Malik has now revealed on Instagram that the couple have welcomed a “healthy and beautiful” baby girl together.
Throughout their back-and-forth over the past five years, Hadid and Malik have become a popular celebrity couple.
There have been a number of break-ups and reunions along the way. Here is their relationship timeline in full…
2015: They started dating
Malik was dating and engaged to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards up until 2015, when the pair had an acrimonious split. Their break up was documented extensively by the press and Little Mix even released a song – Shout Out to My Ex – in 2016, which seemed to be aimed at the former One Direction star.
The song peaked at number one in the UK charts and remained there for three weeks.
Meanwhile, Hadid was dating musician Cody Simpson but they also broke up in 2015.
Hadid was then tipped to be dating popstar Joe Jonas, while Malik was rumoured to be romancing model Neelam Gill.
However in November, the pair surprised everyone when they were spotted “getting cosy” at an after party for the American Music Awards and later being snapped leaving a restaurant together in Hollywood.
In December, the couple went Instagram official by posting a Polaroid image of the pair together.
January 2016: The Pillowtalk video
January marked a key moment for the couple after Malik released his first single from his hotly anticipated first solo album, Pillowtalk.
In the video, the pair are seen kissing and nuzzling each other as Malik sings.
In April, they cemented their relationship further by posing for US Vogue for a photoshoot in Naples. The spread was created by one of Hadid’s favourite photographers, Mario Testino.
Unfortunately, the first split rumours then hit and the couple were rumoured to have parted ways the next month, but reportedly got back together a week later.
Hadid also showed her support for the singer when he dropped out of his Capital Summertime Ball appearance citing anxiety.
For their red carpet debut, the couple chose none other than the Met Gala, much to the delight of fans.
August 2017: Vogue
The whole of 2017 was characterised by bliss for the couple, as they gave their first joint interview and graced the cover of US Vogue’s August issue.
While taking part in Vogue’s 73 Questions video segment, Hadid also revealed the most romantic thing Malik had ever done for her was organise a boat trip for Valentine’s day.
They also continued to document their love for each other on social media.
February 2018: The split
Despite their loved-up year, the couple confirmed they split up in February 2018.
In March, Zayn posted a following statement on his Twitter account after speculation from fans.
He said: “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend.
“She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first.
“We love you all.”
Later, Hadid posted on her Twitter: “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.. not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared.”
She continued: “I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for.
“As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be. xG.”
Malik then unfollowed Hadid and her mother, Yolanda, on Instagram.
But the split did not appear to last long as the Daily Mail posted photographs of the duo kissing before getting a coffee just two months later.
The couple then posted a photograph together on Instagram in June in a sweet embrace.
The Evening Standard’s Homes and Property team then revealed in October that the Pillowtalk singer was selling his London and Los Angeles houses to move closer to the supermodel.
2019: (Another) split
January marked the end of their relationship once more after a source told US Weekly the pair had broken up. It came after the couple spent New Year’s Eve apart, which prompted speculation that there was trouble in paradise.
March then saw Malik tweeting Hadid and telling her he loved her but by April, it seemed that the pair were over again.
A month later, the popstar went on a rant on Twitter, prompting tabloids to speculate he was talking about his ex, which he soon quashed.
“My tweet was not about @GiGiHadid so leave her the f*** alone she is the most amazing woman I’ve ever known,” he said.
In August, Hadid was spotted with the Bachelor star Tyler Cameron, seemingly confirming the Zayn/Hadid saga was over for good.
By October, their summer romance appeared to have cooled off.
Four months later, it seemed that Hadid and Malik were on good terms once more when Hadid posted an Instagram status saying that she was cooking one of Malik’s mother’s recipes.
She returned the favour by posting a skit Hadid shot with Vogue. Fans of the couple begin to wonder if this meant that they were back together.
2020: Pictured in New York
January 12 marked Malik’s 27th birthday and – much to the delight of Malik and Hadid shippers – their confirmation that the pair back together once more.
The couple were photographed leaving the Eleven Madison restaurant in New York and holding hands as they walked past photographers.
April 2020: Baby rumours
On Tuesday, April 28, TMZ stated that Malik and Hadid were expecting their first child together, according to “family sources”.
The report said Hadid, who just celebrated her 25th birthday, was 20 weeks into her pregnancy.
September 2020: First child
On September 24, Malik revealed the couple had welcomed their first child together, a “healthy and beautiful” baby girl.
“To try put into words how i am feeling right now would be an impossible task,” he wrote.
“The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, and thankful for the life we will have together.”
Hadid also shared an image of Malik holding their daughter’s tiny hand, writing: “Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love.”
