Inside Lily Allen and David Harbour's quickie Vegas wedding

Just when you thought 2020 would pass wholly bereft of harmlessly distracting content, the internet has seized gleefully on Lily Allen’s iconic Las Vegas wedding.

The Smile singer, 35, beaming ear-to-ear, shared selfies last night of the Big Day to her social media accounts: an ecstatic Lily Allen and beau David Harbour flanked by the obligatory Elvis impersonator; Lily Allen and beau David Harbour guffawing in front of a seedy Vegas lashes bar; Lily Allen minus beau David Harbour but in full white wedding regalia demolishing an In-N-0ut burger.

No paps, just snaps. But for those asking “David Who? Las What Now? In-N-Where?”, or simply what’s the sitch with this hitch, here is a sauce-soaked digest.

Harbour club

The beau is reportedly a bae. David Harbour, 45, Hawkins police chief and Millie Bobby Brown’s fictional foster father in the hit Netflix sensation Stranger Things, wooed Allen last year by wearing fake Lily Allen merch he bought on eBay to their first date. Yes, he wore a T-shirt with Lily Allen’s face on it to a date with Lily Allen.

In January, they attended a Bafta tea party together. The impressively jawed actor (it’s usually hidden behind a scruffy-chic beard), who also starred in the Hellboy reboot and Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel superhero vehicle Black Widow, spent quarantine in Croatia with Allen and her two children, whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper. The pair’s engagement was rumoured in May, when Lily shared an Instagram photo and enthusiastic fans noted that her ring was on a certain finger. Cute.

Waking up in Vegas

The “I Do” heard around the world took place at the Graceland Wedding Chapel, which is where luminaries like Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Ray Cyrus (father of pop star Miley) have also tied the knot.

Court records show the wedding took place on Monday. “In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people’s princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic,” Harbour wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. Allen wore a short, double-breasted Dior dress in white for the night.

Burger dressing

A white Dior dress combined with a famously sloppy burger is, in theory, an odd match up. But the lack of convention is so clearly part of this occasion’s charm that all is not only forgiven, it is actively fawned over.

“Lily Allen inhaling an In-N-Out burger in her Dior wedding dress is a mood”, concluded one internet onlooker. “Get this s*** framed”, added another fan. “I want it on a pillow.” The sight of the Not Fair chanteuse in her Sixties-inspired designer dress tucking into a dirty burger outside a diner is alone enough to pluck on the nostalgia strings.

Further pictures of Harbour, Allen (wearing a patterned face mask, just to be Covid-secure) and her two children tucking into the full take-out meal is enough to make the heart grow three sizes. Probably. Or, at the very least, keep you vaguely preoccupied for a fleeting moment.
