Lady Gaga leads MTV EMA 2020 nominations with seven nods

The Rain On Me singer is just ahead of BTS and Justin Bieber

The MTV Europe Music Awards have announced this year’s contenders for the top prizes, with Lady Gaga out front with seven nominations.

The 34-year-old, who made a pop comeback with her sixth studio album Chromatica earlier this year, was followed by K-Pop superstars BTS and Justin Bieber who each received five nods.

It’s set to be a toughly-fought contest, with Gaga going up against Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B for best U.S. act, while Beliebers will face off against the BTS Army for the Biggest Fans trophy.

Lady Gaga has already picked up five gongs for her most recent musical efforts, with the star taking home a number of awards including Best Artist in the MTV VMAs, which took place in August this year.

The MTV EMAs added three new categories this year: best Latin, video for good and best virtual live. The first two of these three categories were imported from the MTV Video Music Awards, where they were introduced in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Voting is open now and will remain open until Monday 2nd November. The show will air internationally on Sunday 8th November on MTV.
